New to Fridays!!

Thought I'd incorporate a standing post on my blog, and why not make it on Fridays! No one really works on Fridays do they? This is a game that my husband and I used to play every Friday. You send out a song lyric for someone to guess. 80s new wave were always my favorites. Because of the internet, everyone is on the honors system. Today I will do some lines from one of my favorite movies. It is on right now, so I've got my laptop and various text books lined up on the couch...yes, I am one of those freaks who works on Fridays. The first one will be easy, just to get you started.

"I understand that you little guys start out with your woobies and you think they're great ... and they are. They are terrific. But pretty soon, a woobie isn't enough. You're out on the street trying to score an electric blanket, or maybe a quilt. And the next thing you know, you're strung out on bedspreads Ken. That's serious."

Post your guess. Feel free to throw back a line or two, in the spirit of Friday. Or, throw back another line if this was too easy for you...that way you won't spoil it for the young folk out there. I'm willing to bet $50 that my sister (born 1979) does not know the movie because she probably hasn't seen it! And no, she is not a communist.

Chris, you are exempt from this first challenge since you know these words (actually the entire movie) by heart. And you wonder why I married him???

Hit me with your best shot

Today I started acupuncture treatment in order to help me quit smoking. So far so good. Night is the hardest time for me, so wish me luck as we get closer to the evening hours. I have a 7pm tennis match, so hopefully that will help me. I'll post more about the specific treatment tomorrow. I'm hoping to remember my camera so that I can take a few pictures. In the meantime, here is a preview:

Goodbye sweet friend

Tonight is going to be my last night as a smoker. I have smoked on and off (but mostly on) for more years that I care to admit. I have quit cold turkey and with the patch. Nothing seems to work. Yes, I know that you need to want to quit, that you need to quit for yourself, blah, blah, blah. The problem is that I really like smoking and not just because it makes me look cool (kidding of course). There is nothing better than indulging in a few cigs and a few beers on my patio on a warm summer night. There is nothing better than lighting up after a great meal. But, those days are over. I need to quit; I'm tired of being a smoker. I want to live a full live, without phlegm, smelly fingers and black lungs.

Now, pardon me if I end this post. I'm going to smoke it up on my last night. I've got a six pack of Bells in the fridge. It has been chilling in the crisper all day.

After all, tomorrow is another day. And for me, it will be a smoke free one!

Social event of the week

On Wednesday of this week (Aug 15), Sustainable Clintonville will be meeting at the Whetstone Library, 6:30 pm. I have just found out about SC, so this will be my first meeting. I just wanted to let you other Green folks out there know about it. It is not easy being green, as Kermit once said, so we all need to stick together!!

The dog daze of summer

We never seem to have working AC. We are in house #2 and same thing. Our AC broke earlier this season and it hasn't been repaired yet. I'm really not complaining as I hate to have it on. I'd rather have the windows open. However, our dog does not always agree. When the heat gets to be too much, you will often find her laying behind the couch, see above. Wondering if it really feels cooler, with her head underneath? Maybe I should try it! Here is the shot from the other side.....

Deal of the Century

Just wanted to pass on a farmer's market of sorts. Really more of a porch market, but totally worthy of giving a shout out to. Now don't count on doing all of your shopping here. You can find tomatos (many varieties, including several heirloom), peppers and several types of jams. The best part is that the tomatos are a whopping 0.60/lb! The above tomatos were purchased for $3.60. Just go to the 300 block of Glenmont Avenue. On the South side of the street, you will see a sign for Betty's Produce. You just go up to the front porch, select your items, weigh them and pay. I tend to throw a little extra cash into the can because I feel so bad that her prices are so low! You should go check it out. I used half of my maters to make some salsa today. One was regular salsa, the other was corn salsa, with some tomatos of course.
